Trusted by contractors, developers, and property managers across Calgary, we deliver fast turnaround times, clear documentation, and inspection-ready results.

What We Do

Comprehensive Fire Alarm Verification & Consulting

Fire alarm verification is a critical step in ensuring the safety and compliance of your building’s fire protection systems. Unlike standard contractor testing, our engineering-led verification guarantees that your system meets all ULC codes and Alberta Building Code requirements. We work directly with contractors, property managers, and developers to ensure that fire alarm systems are not only operational but also compliant with all relevant standards.

We provide a complete engineering assessment that includes a detailed review of system components, testing, and documentation. Our services ensure that your building is inspection-ready, with no surprises when it’s time for official verification.

What’s Included in a Fire Alarm Verification

In-Depth Fire Alarm Verification Process

Our fire alarm verification service includes:

System Review

We start with a comprehensive check of all system components, ensuring that each part of the system is fully functional and up to code.

Device-by-Device Verification

We verify each device individually, including detectors, alarms, and control panels.

Signal Path Validation

We ensure that signal paths meet the necessary requirements for system integrity.

Integrated System Testing Coordination

If your system is integrated with elevators, door holders, or smoke control systems, we coordinate testing for these as well.

Code Compliance Confirmation

We verify that your system meets all ULC standards and Alberta building codes.

Deficiency Identification & Recommendations

If we identify any issues, we provide detailed reports and recommendations for corrections.

Engineered Verification Report

You’ll receive a comprehensive report, including all test results, deficiency notes, and compliance documentation.

Calgary AHJ Support

We assist with the submission of all necessary documentation to Calgary's Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).

Engineered Verification Reports

Reliable, AHJ-Ready Verification Reports

While MNA Engineers does not prepare the engineered verification reports, we ensure that the AHJ-ready documentation is seamlessly integrated into our process. The fire alarm manufacturer’s technician who attends the verification will complete a standard CAN/ULC-S537 Verification of Fire Alarm Systems form. This form is typically prepared using an MS Excel template, which the technician fills out as the verification progresses.

Once the verification is complete, the technician submits the form to their company. The company then forwards the report to the client.
Our engineers will request a copy of this report to supplement the one-page stamped certificate that we issue upon completion of the verification. Both the engineered report and the certificate are then submitted to the client, who will forward them to the Calgary AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction).

This streamlined process ensures that all necessary documentation is in order for a smooth submission to the AHJ.

Step-by-Step Verification Process

Our fire alarm verification process is straightforward, transparent, and efficient:

Initial Consultation

We review your project scope, including any available pre-test results or approved drawings.

Document Review(1-2 Weeks Prior)

We review all necessary documentation and approve the final scope before scheduling the site visit.

On-Site Verification

Depending on the building size, this can range from 1 day to 1 week. Our engineers conduct a thorough verification of the system.

Deficiency Correction

If we identify any critical failures, we notify the contractor to fix them. A re-verification is scheduled to confirm corrections.

Engineered Report Preparation

Once all deficiencies are corrected, we prepare and deliver the engineered verification report.

AHJ Coordination

We assist with the necessary documentation submission to the Calgary AHJ for final approval.

Our expertise spans buildings with complex fire protection systems, multi-building networks, and integrated systems, ensuring that we meet the unique needs of each project.

Cost Considerations

Factors That Influence Fire Alarm Verification Costs

Our time-based pricing ensures that you pay for the actual work performed, based on the complexity and scope of your system:

Device Count & Density

Larger systems with more devices require additional time.

System Readiness

Systems that are fully pre-tested and ready to go are quicker to verify, reducing costs.

Accessibility

High ceilings, secured areas, and hard-to-reach places add time to the verification process.

Phasing

Systems requiring multiple visits due to construction phases will incur additional costs.

After-Hours Requirements

Work done outside normal hours, such as at night or on weekends, incurs overtime charges.

Integration Complexity

Integrated systems (e.g., elevators, smoke control fans) require extra coordination for Integrated Systems Testing.
